BBC swap
My 72 blazers 350 is tired, very tired...60 over.. In my search for a good 350 block to build I stumbled upon a 71 402 out of a camper special, complete all brackets pulleys, mount towers etc. Guy had it rebuilt now a "408" and ended up needing some cash, the price was half of what I would have put into a 350.. Anyhow.. Questions..
I was converting to 700R with the 350 and rather than messing with drivelines I was just going to move it forward the 2".. Doing the BBC swap does anyone know how this will effect the location? I have the BBC truck motor mount towers, but have read that the SBC towers work fine. One would assume the BBC swap would just require the 2" move forward just like the 350 but wanted to pick some brains to avoid as many "noseeums" as possible. Thanks |

Re: BBC swap
my truck HAD a big block before I bought it with a 350 sitting on the big block mounts. Later swapped to a 700r4 from a th350 and IIRCC, the transfer case moved aft a few inches, requiring the crossmember to be moved. IDK if that had anything to do with the motor mounts or the length of the transmission. I do like the motor sitting rearward, though, for weight distribution reasons.

Re: BBC swap
A few years I did this. 402 BBC on small block mounts along with t350 trans and all bolted up. It wasn't a daily driver but it loved fuel. If nothing else they look good.

Re: BBC swap
I put a BB in a blazer probably 30 years ago if I remember correctly everything bolted in. I do remember I used the sb motor mounts.

Re: BBC swap
Ok, so staying with the sbc +700r would require a 2" move forward on the engine or driveline length adjustments..
So bolting the BBC to the 700 requires the same 2" move forward but should be no problem except the possibility of space between the engine and the radiator and at that point I will have to see how it goes, swp or lwp I will have to play all that by ear. Thanks for the responses gentlemen. |
