54 Chev front fender alignment

My appologies if this has been covered before. I couldn't find the info doing a search.
I'm trying to align my 54 front fenders. On the cab there is a recessed area that has the holes to bolt the fenders to the cab. Does the outer edge of the fender fit into this area on the cab or does the fender mounting surface to the cab sit on top of this recessed area?

Hope this makes sense

Thanks for any help.

Jeff

Re: 54 Chev front fender alignment

Welcome
If I'm reading it right the fender fits into the recess...the mounting holes should line up

Re: 54 Chev front fender alignment

Ok, that is what I was thinking. I should have mentioned that the front fenders are aftermarket. The holes don't line up well, that is what was throwing me off.

Thanks for the help

Too painfully true. Even moving Classic's finest Chinese Pass fender back 1" on mine did not solve alignment problem. Better to fix old one.

Re: 54 Chev front fender alignment

Unfortunatly the original fenders were long gone before I purchased this project. Sounds like I'm in for some fun.

Thanks

Fitting front fenders with hood down and locked might be was to go. May have to drill all new holes if unlucky. See pic on post 98 on linky below. Thats where i gave up on trying anything else.

Re: 54 Chev front fender alignment

Dozens of threads here and elsewhere about aftermarket sheet metal not fitting well.

A chain saw file of the appropriate diameter works fantastic for elongating holes in sheet metal.

Basically one does what one has to do to get them to fit.
