Do you like whitewalls
I'm wondering peoples general thoughts on wide whites. Do you prefer black wall or wide white wall? Let me set some guidelines. Absolutely 15" steel wheels, no 22" Detroit speed or other mags' Like my pictures.
I use to hate white walls, now I'm good with them but not sure on every one elses thought on the wide white look on these trucks. So choices, 15" painted steel wheels, your choice of caps, wide whites or black?

Re: Do you like whitewalls
I'm planning on running the new Diamondback radials that look like bias white walls on the 48 when it hits the road.
I am not a fan of the big gaudy "rims" that are so prevalent locally. On the Other hand Joedoe has been working on me with his color matched wheels that are just a part of his truck and don't distract your eye from the rest of the truck. You look at photos of his truck and then you go "well dang he has big rims on it" but they aren't in your face big rims. The two trucks above nailed the wide white thing because the white wall width is appropriate for the year model of the truck and isn't intended to give the "gangsta" look. Throw in that color choices and the rest of the build work with the caps and wide whites. I know guys get tired of me preaching it but on anything you put on your truck is it a viable contributing part of the total build and the complete look or is it something that ends looking stuck on as an after thought because the "cool kids" all have it. With wide whites, do they contribute to the build as a whole and are they period correct for the complete build? Simple rule if you have a bunch of billet pieces rather than cast aluminum no wide whites.

I love whitewalls, have some new rims that I won’t install because I’m saving for new whitewall tires. Please mention whitewall size in your pics, I’m looking for ideas for my ‘58

Re: Do you like whitewalls
I'm so so on these trucks. I prefer wide whites on 50's cars and then they still have to "fit" the look. Keep in mind I bought both the way you see them. The red truck has way too old of tires, they look new but the DOT date says 2003! I'm going to replace with blackwalls, which I think looks good with the painted wheels and trim rings. One big reason for blackwalls is the price of wide whites.

Re: Do you like whitewalls
Replaced the white walls. They were 16 years old and a little too small. I think they look better in a picture. It's debatable which actually is better, personal taste.

Re: Do you like whitewalls
Back to my question. I'm not concerned with how this truck looks either way I'm interested to find out how many people prefer white walls as opposed to those that don't care for them.

Re: Do you like whitewalls
This truck happens to be a good example of "whitewalls or not, does it really matter?". This truck is awesome, it would be awesome with or without whitewalls so it's really just personal taste

Re: Do you like whitewalls
I don't care for whitewalls much. Guys never put them on trucks back in the day, they were for cars. That said, they're ok now if you want the old timey look.

Re: Do you like whitewalls
I was so lucky to get a set on 55 passenger car rims painted red! I lucked out! They were on Craigslist back in my area there in California when I needed a set of rims and tires to my truck a roller. I so lucked out, I dig the look, can't wait until it's painted!

Re: Do you like whitewalls
I really like the vintage look and we have them on my wife's 48. But that being said... they are a total PITA to keep clean. I can wash the truck 4 times in the amount of time it takes to clean and detail just the tires. So I won't be using them on my 49 build.

Re: Do you like whitewalls
Blackwalls seem to tell you a truck is still out working, playing, or just getting dirty.
Whitewalls tell you a vehicle is retired. I like both depending on the vehicle. |

Re: Do you like whitewalls
Saving my nickles for some whitewalls.
Here's the truck with black sidewalls.......... There's a thread over on the HAMB where you can post a photo of your car/truck and they'll photoshop the image with changes like paint color and wheels/tires and repost it for you. I asked if they'd photoshop my truck with whitewalls and baby moons, and here's what I got I showed the picture to my wife and she said "I don't care what you like, put whitewalls on the truck" It is only money, I guess |

Re: Do you like whitewalls
Another thought about whitewalls.
Growing up in the late 60's the folks always had whitewalls on the family car. One of my chores was washing the car, and it seems to me the whitewalls always cleaned up with a little Comet and a brush. Fast forward 50 years, and I have a early 80's sedan I put skinny whitewalls on so the car would look like it did when it rolled out of the factory. What a PITA they are to keep them looking white. There's a fair amount of ozone pollution here and lots of catalytic converters now and I wonder if that's why they turn a dingy brown so quickly. Wonder what other's experience is with whitewalls |

Very nice. Whitewalls would never go with the mag wheels but look awesome with the steel wheels and caps. WW fit the color scheme. I think if the truck had a pearl type shiny paint then the mags with blackwalls would fit better
