Cool '69 GMC K2500 Utility

This was one of three trucks that I bought from a friend as a lot. He needed to get them off his property and made me a deal. I don't have any plans for it really and it might just get sold, but I figured I'd share anyways. It's a 1969 GMC K2500 (3/4 ton, 4wd) with a utility bed. It has a V8 (not sure what size) with a 4 spd manual transmission. It's in pretty rough shape, but at least it's a complete truck.

Re: '69 GMC K2500 Utility

First chore was to clean it up a little. Armed with a stick and gloves, I cleaned out the engine compartment. The headers that are on it interfere with the clutch linkage, so they need to be replaced at least. I also threw a seat in from another truck I have.

Yesterday I went to the DMV to try to get the title for it. They told me because it was out of the system for so many years I need a weight certificate and VIN verification. Of course this means emptying the two axles out of the bed and digging it out of the backyard. I got the axles out, but I still need to figure out a plan to get it on and off a trailer for a weight certificate.

I got it out of the yard and onto the trailer. Had to move all three of my other trucks out of the way while sharing one battery between two and the winch on the trailer. Still need to figure out a plan to get it off the trailer, onto the scales, and back onto the trailer - without causing problems. I'll call the scales tomorrow and see when the best time to do it would be.

This truck weighs 4700lbs. Just need a VIN verification and it will have a clean title.

Well damn. The VIN verification dude that I paid $50 to fill out a one-page form correctly didn't fill it out correctly and wasted my time at the DMV this morning. I'll have to go back again next week.

May I ask who the VIN verification dude works for? An independent or a state agency?

One of my favorite songs says is best...

"I've been to hell I spell it
I spell it DMV
Anyone who's been there
Knows precisely what I mean"

I put that song on as soon as I got home!

It was not a state agency. I used Northern California Registration Services so I wouldn't have to take the truck to the DMV and unload it off a trailer.

HA! What are the odds! Hard to believe that song is 21 years old...
Well hopefully the guy will apologize and do it correct next time.

Re: '69 GMC K2500 Utility

Third trip to the DMV for this dang truck, and.... success! Clean title in my name and non-op registration. There was no point in putting any work or money into this thing until that was done.

I decoded the engine block to find that it is likely the original 350. The wiring is very messed up and should probably just be replaced with a new harness. It's a long ways from running.

I am tempted to steal the tach instrument cluster that is in it for one of my other trucks. I have a regular cluster to replace it with. I also have a longbed that I might put on it instead of the utility body.

Re: '69 GMC K2500 Utility

I gave this truck a good wash and sold it over the weekend. I won't really miss it. Every body part on it was rusty.
