Good Issue of Truckin' for us
I got my Feb. issue of Truckin' in the mail today. There's a feature on a 79 stepside, an 84 fleetside, and a '72 fleetside. I haven't read the articles yet, but they look like nice trucks.

I was just going to post this..the 79 is a pro street stepper with a 98 dash setup, the 84 is a fleetside cruiser...both have late model front ends.
Quite cool!

Yes, but magazines usually are ahead on their cover months.

The late-model dash in the Pro-Street C10 is sweet!
The 84' fleetside is very nice and the attention to detail is awesome (Look at the doorjambs). It would look better bagged on 20's though. The 72' C10 speaks for itself!

So today I find out that newsstand copy of the Feb. Truckin' has its annual calendar in it... but my subscription copy doesn't!
The cover is even slightly different, in that on the newsstand edition it promotes the calendar, and in mine there's no mention of it! I look forward to getting the Truckin' calendar every year...

Truckin' is the only mag that gives these trucks any credit and they're who I'm going to subscribe to now... Streettrucks is even worse, they don't acknowledge anything over 3 years old and have even more ads to articles than truckin'....

I started thinking. Let me get this straight. I send you a years worth of subscription money for you to use in advance. In appreciation for me being a loyal customer, you give the schmuck that buys your mag off the newstand all the goodies, and I get squat. Hmmmm? Somehow I don't like this...

I agree that it sucks.......but the schmucks who buy it off the newstand pay full cover price, which is usually twice as much, per issue, than what the subscribers pays.....But I agree.....The loyal guys should get the FREE crap too....

You also have to factor in the cost to print these special issues are higher, so the newstand issue doesn't net the same profit as the subscriber issue does. Add this with the fact that some of the costly news stand issues don't get sold, and the retailer gets a credit back for unsold issues. I don't have all the numbers, but my guess is this brings it much closer to the "non" subscriber having to purchase 7 to 8 issues for them to earn more profit. If the non subscriber purchases 7 to 8 issues, then more than likely he will subscribe at some point. Once he subscribes, he reduces the profit from the off the rack purchaser even more, so what's the point. I suggest they quit whoring the mag to subscribers for such a cheap price, and give them all the goodies. I would rather pay full price and get everything, than half price and get half a magizine... |

Jan issue of Pertersons was good also if your into 4x4's. The Ck5 crew made it at Blazer Bash. Groupe shot with about 30 K5's and Chevy trucks. They got the infomous Rita Rock crawling shot also. Hit www.ck5 forums and put "Petersons" or "Rita" in the search and you should find some pitures. Same deal at Pirate4x4.

I don't buy any of the rags anymore. I got tired of buying these things for advertisments. The only mag I ever got worth a darn was the now defunkt Chevy Truck. It was a bi-monthly and had great articles and just about nothing in it except 67-72's and a lot of 73-87's. It didn't have a lot of advertising and I guess is the reason it couldn't make it. It was bought out by the big company who owns Sport Truck. For the subscribers who were left holding the bag at Chevy Truck, Sport Truck decided to finish the subscription with their piece of crap mag. After the first couple I received, I started throwing them in the trash as quick as I got them.
I used to subscribe to 3 or 4 different ones a year. None now. These things have gone the way of everything else. It's a money racket now. When a mag has more pages of ads than it does articles or pics, it's time to move on. Not counting when the pics and articles are nothing pertaining to what you like in the first place. |
