Bench Seat Identification?
Howdy all,
I am coming up on the time to fix up the seat in my pickup and I want to make sure I order the correct cushions and seat cover when I do. I assume it is a 73-80 seat based on the seat belts not having slots. It is a folding seat and the adjuster is in the front by the driver knees. It is in overall good condition just a little wore out from sliding in and out. Attached are some pictures! ![]() ![]() |

Re: Bench Seat Identification?
That's an 81-87 bench seat. And the 81-87 has seatbelt bezels, its the 73-80, that does not.
And BTW, this seat is for sale. I can pack her and ship it to you and save you all the work. Frame, tracks and all the hardware have been restored also.

Re: Bench Seat Identification?
All my truck seats adjust from the side so the OP's must be newer than 77. TKCR looks like he does very nice work. I'll keep that in mind.

Re: Bench Seat Identification?
Pic #1 & #2 77-80 Adjuster is on the side and the shape of the hinge garnishes are shaped different than the 81-87.
Pic #3 & #4 81-87 Adjuster is in the front, and again the garnishes are shaped different.

Re: Bench Seat Identification?
Sorry to cut in on this thread, but I have a question about the seats. I have an 84 GMC 2000, and I'd like to know if the seat back is supposed to lock in the upright position? It seems kind of unsafe to me in the event of an accident that it just folds forward all the time.
Thanks |

Those part that hangs is called the catch. The saw tooth piece is called the latch. (part of the seat back frame) The bolt through the catch is called the striker. In a collision, the catch will swing forward and meet with one of the two latch teeth keeping the seat back from folding forward.

Re: Bench Seat Identification?
I tell ya, after pricing everything needed for the full restoration of the seats I am pretty sure I don't need new foam! Man, it's like that stuff is made of gold or something.
Around $400 for two cushions and a new cover from the majors, anyone know of a better source?

Re: Bench Seat Identification?
Thanks for that. Where do you suggest getting covers from to stay away from Acme?
