Reproduction SPID?

I've seen tons of threads here on SPIDs. I have a 1970 GMC that my Dad purchased new in 1970. So it's been in the family for 49 years and sometime during those 49 years and my rebuild of the truck the SPID was lost. I hear how easy it is to get a fake SPID. I'm not trying to misrepresent anything or rip anyone off. There's nothing special about this truck. It's just a 'Custom Camper' C2500. I would just like to get a replacement SPID just to make my truck a little more 'complete'. I suspect my son will at some point get this truck so it should remain in the family for many more years.

So to the question where might get another SPID for my truck?

Agreed, Jeff (known as chipflyer on here) does excellent work. Anyone looking for one, check out his website https://outintheshop.com. For those of you with Canadian trucks, Vintage Vehicle Service was able to provide all the original RPO codes and more that came from the factory, given only the serial number.

Talking Re: Reproduction SPID?

Interesting topic , I too have a 70 Longhorn Custom that the PO did some "modifications" to ,removed all of the upper and lower side molding ,tailgate molding , roof drip rail molding, Longhorn emblems , who knows what else , was a two tone orange and white exterior, now it's a solid red bright n shiny , painted the inside of the doors n door jams, removed the door panels , and left the interior orange , considerable effort to do all this and it looks really good , bright sunlight and you cant tell truck was originally 2 tone , loaded with options that I can see . SPID is missing , go figure. Bothers me that he just rubbed the SPID till the info was rubbedoff , nasty white blank paper stuck to glove box door . If I had a new SPID made for it ,what info would I add/delete to reflect current condition of truck . If this truck was yours what would you do ? Not trying to misrepresent, just interested in hiding that nasty white blank remnants of original SPID. BTW , have a stack of 35mm pictures of the truck from his widow so I know at one time it was a true two tone , full dresser truck . Just wondering what others would think about this situation.
Good luck on all your projects.

Re: Reproduction SPID?

Interesting. Mine is a 70 CST and seems to be pretty loaded from the factory. At some point, someone painted the back of the glove box door flat black and covered the SPID black. I can't make out any information on it. Is there a way to ID the options by VIN?
AC, 350 with auto trans, trim around front and rear window, upper and lower body trim, two tone paint, bench seat.

No. Not for a US built /sold vehicle. GM Heritage archive does not start this service until 1976/77.

If your truck was built in Canada, or built in the US for Canadian sale, then GM of Canada would have the build information by VIN.

Jeff is very knowledgeable and could probably help you guys figure out what the spid should look like (if that is something he offers)

You could also start a thread
Give good pics
Of
Each side
Front and back
Under the hood
In the bed
Upper cab interior etc, etc
Of your truck

Guys will chime in and get you the facts
Of what it seems to have been built with
Providing it is not overly modified

In my opinion, the SPID label represents what was installed on the truck the day it was born. Many vendors supply parts to these trucks, which are still relatively common. There is no reason to believe that 50, 60, 70 years from now these will still be collectible, and sought after. It might be "cool" to add a few things to it, but i think we owe the next generation the authenticity of how they rolled off the assembly line. We don't own these trucks...we're just caretakers for them.
