How to use a remote starter button.

So I purchased a remote starter button. One wire connects to the starter and the other to the battery, right??
I have the cab off but the engine still on the frame. So there for no ignition cylinder. Will the engine turn over or just crank??
Videos keep saying to have the ignition in ON to start the motor, but cant with out an ignition cylinder.
Thanks.

Re: How to use a remote starter button.

Your 1st question.
One wire connects to the starter and the other to the battery, right??

Yes connect one lead on the remote start button to terminal (S).
Connect the other to the positive side on the battery.
You could connect them both on the starter But if they touch

Your 2nd question
Will the engine turn over or just crank??

If you do not have 12volts running to the distributor it will not start.

Okay now
Before you turn the engine over !!!!!!!!
Make Sure it is in neutral (if it is a straight shift) or Park (if automatic transmission)
What are you trying to accomplish? Hear it Run?
Is it HEI ignition or point type?

Re: How to use a remote starter button.

Thanks for the reply. It's an HEI type. How do I get 12 volts running to the distributor and from where? I am selling the motor and want the buyer know that the engine can run.

Re: How to use a remote starter button.

The S terminal is the one to hook the remote switch to to operate the solenoid.
The R terminal is to forward 12 volt positive to the coil when the starter is cranking.

I run a wire with a small clamp from the battery positive direct to the HEI.
When you want to shut it off just disconnect at the battery.

Yes
Thanks for catching that
I was looking at the picture facing forward
and thinking about how I normally use a screwdriver

I will correct that in my 1st response

It's all good. Just trying to prevent confusion. I edited my reply also.

Positive battery cable to the large terminal on the starter solenoid.

Negative cable to any bolt on the engine block.

Remote starter button from the positive post on the battery to the "S" terminal on the starter solenoid.

Jumper wire from the positive post on the battery to the "BAT" terminal on the HEI.

Like mentioned above make sure the trans is in neutral or park.

Make sure that the oil pressure line is not disconnected or has a plug or cap on it.

Pour a little gas in the carb and push the remote starter button. It should fire right up.

Unhook HEI wire from the battery to kill the engine.

I know most of this was mentioned above but I figured having it all in one place he could print it out and have it in front of him.
