Illuminated bow tie retrofit

I would like to share my latest little project, I finally found myself some Chevrolet hubcaps to fit my us mag wheels. After having them for a few weeks I started looking into options to make the hood mounted bow tie match my wheels (which are the textured gold bow tie). I stumbled across the gm illuminated bow tie for the 2018 silverados. It was somewhat of a pain because of the extreme contour the nose of the hood has, I ended up having to mold some plastic on the backside to get everything to fit right. Here are some photos.

Does the emblem lite up? Are is that the reflection off the flash of the camera? I like it either way.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Illuminated bow tie retrofit

I like it. Is your truck a 69 or 70? I have a 70 and the inner grill looks a little different than yours.

Re: Illuminated bow tie retrofit

Yes it is tied into the parking lights so it lights up whenever they are on. My truck is a 1970. There are a few differences/discrepancies between the 69/70 with both the inner and outer grilles. I have always read and heard that the painted inner grilles were only available on the 69 grilles but I have a bone stock 1970 that has the painted inner grille so I think it was just hit or miss.

Re: Illuminated bow tie retrofit

I’ve read a lot of threads on here about the differences and it seems there usually isn’t a unanimous decision either way so I’m not sure which is actually correct.

Re: Illuminated bow tie retrofit

I was wondering how had it would be to get a new "gold" bowtie on the front on the 71-72 grill. This looks good. I like the gold better than the blue since I'm going red.

Re: Illuminated bow tie retrofit

I was a little hesitant at first simply because it was different than I’m used to I guess. I really like it though and I don’t think it’s something so different that it takes away from the good looks the truck was born with, and if I ever decide to go back, it takes about 5 minutes to switch out.

I have some bow ties from 17 silverado and camaros from swapping them out with the black ones. I'm curious now.
