72 Tilt Column Shift Indicator

Hi,

Anyone ever replaced a tilt column indicator on a 1972?

I dont see much on YouTube. I've got the broken turn switch out....that was my easy, but I dont see anyway to work back further through the tilting portion to get to the indicator. Anyone have any advice?

Thank you.

Re: 72 Tilt Column Shift Indicator

Sorry Guys.... I answered my own question... or at least solved my problem but I would still like to know how to get the tilt column apart???

The shift indicator just slides in the column and into the back of the indicator window. It slides in a channel so that it points to the proper gear and the back slides forward and back to allow for the tilt.

Just leaving this here in case anyone has advice on getting the tilt part of the column apart? Does it involve that spring cover with cover that looks like it will accept a 1/4" drive?

Thanks.

Yes, that square drive cover comes off so you can remove the spring and then the tilt pins with no pressure on them. I'm guessing you got the turn signal switch cover off so you can see the pins?
