fuel gauge problems
I know there was a thread on this not too long ago but I couldn't find it. My fuel gauge doesn't work. When I take the wire off the tank shouldn't the gauge go to full if it has power?? Mine doesn't move so thats why I was wondering. How do I go about checking it?? Thanks

When you remove the wire from the sending unit the gauge should go past Full. If not the most common problem is the wire to the sending unit is grounded ,follow the wire back it should run under the drivers side sill plate ,that is probably where you will find the problem.

Cool thanks, i'll check that. The gauge doesn't bounce at all, it doesn't move at all either, is that just from not having any power to it??

Correct, probably not getting power.
Pull the inst panel, and folow the 'wires' on the printed circuit. I knoe I had to jump a broken 'wire' on mine to get the fuel guage to work. |

To see if your gauge and the wiring to it are working I believe that if you take the wire to the sending unit, turn your ignition to the run postion and ground it your fuel gauge should go to full.

Grounded goes empty, open ckt goes past full.
You can disconnect the brown wire at the fuse panel to see if it's shorted under the seat or rocker trim.
