rear end question

what rear end is this. it has 10 bolts, has the same bolt pattern as a dana 44. it came in the 68 6 cyl 3 spd that i got. any ideas??

Could be a Dana 44 rear. That is assuming your referring to a Dana 44 front for a 4 wheel drive.

yea, thats the same thing as the 44 for a front end. i dont know if they put 44's in the rear of these trucks. if anyone knows let me know. i'll get a pic of it tommorrow and post it.

As far as i know, the 44 was available in early GMC trucks, but not in Chevies. So someone proably put a GMC rear in your truck

it could be a dana 44 swapped in, or also a later 10 bolt rearend. if it has little "horns" on the bottom of the diff, then its the 10 bolt.

here r some pics of the rear end, yes its a GMC.
I couldnt read the numbers on the housing, ill have to go back to the yard and take a wire brush. any info would be helpful.

Looks like a Dan 60 to me, (out of a 3/4 ton). Check out the axle guide.

to small to be a dana 60, its the size of a 44 but i dont know if they used them in the rear. i'll get the axle code tommorrow.
