Tko 600
I have a question about the gear ratio. There are 2 different set ups for the over drive. 1 has .8 and the other is a .64. The first is listed as a rd race while the second is listed as street. While there are several threads on this tranny, I am wanting 2 know which 1 u chose and how did u like/dislike the over drive. Some of the threads have the owner wishing the had chose the rd race while others feel they make the right pick. If u know the rear gear and your tire size please list it. I'm wanting 1 and I just want to make the best pick 4 me. Thanks n advance.

Re: Tko 600
I have the .64 in a 67 Camaro with a 383 and 3.55 gears . It's kinda a big drop from 4th which is 1.1 but great for hwy cruising. If I was was building my car again I would have gone with a 6spd but that would require raising the floor tunnel and my car was already finished and that was out of the question.

Re: Tko 600
I did a 73 Camaro LS swap with a TKO 600. .64 5th. I went with 3:73 gears. It worked well. Shifter was a little notchy compared to the T56 I have in my C10 but it wasn't horrible.
I will qualify that by saying I bought my TKO almost 10 years ago and I believe that they have improved the shift quality on the more recent TKO's. |

Re: Tko 600
Get the one with the most overdrive for the street and tailor your rear gear to how much overall first gear you would like. I prefer 11:1 or so myself but some consider that too much.
A 69 Camaro with 4.10 gears and a close ratio Muncie M21 had a 2.2 first gear so overall first was 9.02. I had a 2.64 first in my Camaro with the 4.10 rear and really like that setup at 10.824 overall first gear.

Re: Tko 600
Thanks for the reply’s so far. Hope more will chime in with there take on it all. Currently I have the 3:73 rear gear and with the 2.87 first I believe it will work. I think that the .64 will work when I get close to 50 mph or better. If u remember the 700 r had a .7 od and Chevy didn’t want it used till above 45. Some have said due to a carb that it will lug below 2000 rpm but I want to try fuel injection and I believe this will help out some of the problem. We’re any of u running the stock size(height) tires? Bigger tires will affect old directly in how u like the Tremec and the od as well.

Re: Tko 600
On my 73 I had a 6.2 LS. I fabbed the clutch linkage and it saved a pretty good chunk of change over a hydraulic clutch setup.

Re: Tko 600
I am running a 3.73 in my Camaro with the .64 overdrive TKO600. To me, this is the perfect combo. Love it!

Re: Tko 600
I run a tko 600 with a .64 OD in my 67 c10. 3.73 gears. My BBC has a ton of torque so I love it. Can shift into 5th in the back 2 lane roads and just chug along
