Post OT - Ugliest Cars of All Time!

Can't believe that Compuserve Autos rated the El Camino as one of the ugliest cars of all time along with the Pacer (Pi$$er), Edsel, VW Thing and Gremlin. I can't argue with some of their selections but the El Capuke was no loser and certainly not ugly! Had to vent...loved my El Capuke...the first 350 I ever owned...four speed and a real tire smoker too. Heck it even had factory air bags in the rear.

I think the 64-72 El Caminos look awesome! Especcialy with a 396/4spd . What about a Aztec? The damn thing looks like a big haybaler to me. Lets not forget the 79-93 rust-stangs. I can't stand the way they look, uglier than a Gremlin IMO.

"Big haybaler" LMAO! That's a good one.

You left out the Matador. That was a face only a mother could love huh?

El Camino's are cool! Whoever wrote that is a butt head. The Edsel wasn't a bad looking car either. Compare it to other cars of that same year and it fit right in. (back when you could tell one car from another unlike today)

If I made a list of ugly cars it would include just about all 80's-up crap. This stuff is butt ugly and only getting worse. The Aztec and Avalanche getting the top votes for gross! Lets not leave out the PT Cruiser. YUK!

The person that wrote this was probably not a car guy...certainly not a truck guy either. The text mixed commercial success with downright fugliness...like the Edsel...which are collectors items now. They had a good point on that one however saying the front grille resembled a urinal...how appropriate for the F**d haters! I am still laughing about that one.

I don't see why they have to pick on american made cars. Yes, the Gremlin and Pacer are the ugliest, but what about the Toyota RAV4, or any other fake SUV with all wheel drive? You know, those squatty little jeep-like things that only big fat women seem to be drawn to. SUV's are bad enough, but a fake one? No way.

I'll rank '73-'79 Ford Mustangs in there too. I'll never know what Ford was thinking with that...

I think most AMC products are fugly!

All Mopars prior to 64,and still some afterwards.

US. automakers first attempts at econe cars/rice rockets,eg: Colts(all)Cortinas,Chevettes, pintos, vegas, monzas(and hybrids) etc!!!
Hyundais, subarus, most all the newer vehicles coming out!!!!

But that might just be me alone

C10N.UT,

I take issue with you saying the Vegas and Monzas are ugly. My '72 Vega looks like a little Camaro, and the mid 70s look like the mid '70s Camaros.

Pintos are ugly. HBodies are not. The Monza Mirage looks like a 3rdgen Camaro!

The Pinto was on the list but I think mostly because of the reputation for going up in smoke when rearended. The guy that wrote this was smoking the drapes!

Iam just going off what I have seen done to the things here in Utah and how most ppl in general seem to bastardize them!
eg:raduised arches,Huge protruding tires.pep boys special hood scoop.cb antennas etc,ya know.......typical nasty hash work!

And most of the monzas and the like are totaly clapped out, rusty, bent up piles by this stage of their life in the unforgiving salted roads here

But I have yet to see any modern attempts to fix one up to date,Fat rims, modern motor(tpi,zz4 etc)smoothed up,dropped some, handle like a corner burner. That might be a good project for a vehicle to play with the Hondas

I found the original link http://member.compuserve.com/autos/g...?gname=uglycar and looked at another one of this page...these guys are smoking the drapes...they have no idea about the retro craze since one guy listed the PT Cruiser as his number one ugliest car for 2000! Heck they grossly underestimated the damand of the PT Cruisers and had to charge a premium for them. These guys that write this stuff need to pull their heads out of their pixels.

C10N.UT,

I'm doing exactly that. I have a whole ton of great chrome and other stuff to fix up my '72. It's getting a TPI 350 with nitrous (possibly the nos, kits have been kinda expensive the last while) with AFR190 aluminum street heads (best on the market for the money). The trans is a Vega T-50 (they can take the power) with a narrowed 3rdgen positraction 3.73 unit with disc brakes.

The car is getting nothing that will give it away. I'm shooting for weight savings, possibly fiberglass front end. The car IS getting 16x8 aluminum IROC wheels.

ColinsOpseth:

I definetly want to see that when you get it done!

That would be fun as all get out to pull along an unsuspecting rice rocket just to blow its recycled beer can doors off

I never would have thought a vega trans could handle the power output of what you will stuffing in there.

The 1950 Nash was as ugly as they come, right up there with the 1992 Caprice station wagon!

In my opinion, most of the foreign cars are awfully ugly. I dont ever remember seeing a good looking non-american vehicle.

My vote is for the late '70's Caddy's with the chopped off trunk. You know the slanted ones. Also any Puegeot.(sp?). And the Nash Metropolitan. Ever seen one of those 3 wheel BMW's? HILARIOUS!!!

The Caprice station wagons aren't too bad. I saw a Buick Roadmaster wagon in Popular Hot Rodding, (same thing as a Caprice) with a LT1 350, nitrous, and 18" wheels. It was white, with woodgrain along the side. It would run in the hight 11's if i rember, and looked baadd for a wagon! A guy in my town has a great sleeper. It is a '80? Malibu station wagon, black with lots of dents, and Ralley wheels. It has a 406 SBC, with allumium heads, a huge cam, and quiet mufflers. In a street race, he beat a brand new Trans-Am with a LS1. The little forgein SUV's are just hideous. Especially the Hyundai Sante Fe. They look so weak on the bottom side, the pencil-thick rear suspension componets wouldn't hold up to very much.
