Racemate alternator wiring
I’ve got a racemate water pump alternator combo. I wired in the exciter I have a Ford solenoid wired in as well and then I loomed off and electrical tape all the old connections for the stock alternator. but now I’m getting a purse parasitic drain and my alternator dummy light staying on any help would be appreciated. 🤙

Re: Racemate alternator wiring
Not sure of what you have but seems to be a lot of extra work.
How is the Ford solenoid wired? It may be staying on if there is power to it. Is it hot to the touch even with the key off.

Re: Racemate alternator wiring
The ford solenoid is wired in for the exciter on the water pump alternator combo and also as a jump terminal or push button start etc. it’s off when the key is off and only jumped to the starter when the key is on the problem I’m having is the old electrical for the old alternator is having a parasitic drain on the battery so I’m not sure what to do with that or how I can eliminate the voltage regulator

Buy a internal alternator and do away with the external one. The search feature is worth it's weight in gold for this kind of stuff. Mad electric is a good read on changing it out also. The electrical section has 1000's of threads on doing this also. http://www.madelectrical.com/electrical-tech.shtml

Re: Racemate alternator wiring
you are probably needing to use one of the factory truck wires probably the resistor wire to go to your ford solenoid somewhere but we would need to see the wire diagram for your race alternator to really know

Re: Racemate alternator wiring
was just reading a little about those how many amps is that someone said they were only available with 15-28-32 amp versions and that might not be enough for a street vehicle

Re: Racemate alternator wiring
Well after doing some reading, this is not going to work well at all in a truck that is used everyday. Per the website
https://www.racemate.com/alt_about.html Race cars that are used with no charging system. Between heats, the battery must be charged. The entire RaceMate is incorporated on the front of the water pump and produces 15 amps, (also available with 22 or 32 amps). RaceMate will maintain peek battery levels for maximum starting power. RaceMate is compatible with all high energy ignition systems.
