Electrical plug pointing at an empty hole in the heater core cover in the engine bay, what is supposed to be here? 1984 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4

Mongocanfly, can you explain a little more?

If the resistor is missing, do you only have high speed on the blower?

Is this literally just wiring a resistor in series with the motor to slow it down? Seems a little crude, but I guess it's cheaper than building multiple windings into that motor.

Typically yes, only high speed will work without the resistor because high on the switch is just sending full power to the motor. The lower settings have resistance in line for the lower speeds. It's in the cool air ducting to keep the resistor from overheating. Same principle used yet today on a lot of vehicles.
