Snub nose C60
I found a snub nose C60 locally for sale, for what seems like a good deal. I'm just wondering what the story is with these trucks? What was the purpose of the snub nose trucks? Any info would be great and appreciated. Hopefully I'll get to look at this one in person tomorrow if it doesn't sell before I get off work.

Re: Snub nose C60
The story? These trucks had many stories, the medium duty GM trucks literally built America, they were used in construction, delivery, agriculture, and just about any field you can imagine where you needed something with more capacity than a pickup and less than a semi.
The purpose of the nose is maneuverability and length for states that had restrictions on lengths of commercial vehicles/truck and trailer combos, as far as I've always understood. Good luck! Those are cool trucks, have a buddy with a 66 GMC. The "snub nose" Low Cab Forward trucks are some of the best looking IMO. |

Re: Snub nose C60
Thanks for the reply! I have a couple of pictures, but I'm clueless as how to post them on here. The truck has been sitting for 25+ years but has some cool door graphics from way back when it was in service.

Re: Snub nose C60
Yeah, I love the look of it! It looks fairly solid and complete from these pictures, but I haven't seen any interior pictures. 327 under the hood. I don't need it...I just want it! haha! I feel like I don't see many of the snub nose trucks...especially in my area. That and the fair asking price make me want to pick it up!

I'm not sure if I'm breaking forum rules...someone let me know if I am. What do you typically see these kinds of trucks go for in your area?

Re: Snub nose C60
I'm not sure on price ,but the coe style cabs are bringing big money these days...I'm not sure on the snub nose...it would make a cool truck if it's in good shape...but I'd make sure its complete and savable...dont imagine theres much in the way of spare parts out there..

Re: Snub nose C60
Yeah, I'd imagine you're right about the lack of spare parts for these trucks. I'm hoping to go look it over this afternoon and get a better idea of how solid it actually is.

I would love to put one of these on a c10 frame with no bumper and c10 wheel openings with no fender flairs.

Re: Snub nose C60
Check out the Craigslist thread under the heavy haulers section, that may or may not help you on an idea of price. Some parts are hard to come by, front clip EVERYTHING, some other miscellaneous stuff. Interior, doors, most of cab except the floor and firewall are the same as a pickup. Be prepared to spend $$$ on brakes or convert to more modern hydroboost setup. Plus tires can be a PITA to find, as is someone to deal with the old split rims, if it has them.
It looks pretty good!!!! That is a LCF truck, Low Cab Forward. A COE, or cab over engine, has the flat nose. Really cool looking truck, IMO the best of the heavy Chevies of that era! |

Re: Snub nose C60
Awesome looking truck! Love those Dayton wheels... That would be a great rig to get in to running/driving condition again.
Most wheel cylinders can be found online. DS Parts Company http://dspartscompany.com/ in Virginia can rebuild your vacuum/hydro boost. Brake Bonding and Friction in W-Virginia can re-line your shoes 304-838-5175 I've used both of these companies above and would highly recommend them. Assuming that has an I-beam front end, I'm sure most of the parts can be matched or changed to a newer component. I bought my '61 GMC 5000 out of NC five years ago for $1700, not in as good of condition as this one, but close. It's now mechanically sound, all the brakes gone through, added an AUX transmission, etc. On top of the purchase price I put around $3500 - $4000 worth of parts into it. Cost to install the AUX trans, new windshield and install a flatbed was $1800 of that... Unless you're hauling heavy freight daily, don't worry about all the disc brake conversion and newer hydroboost stuff. With a proper working vacuum booster you can stop darn quick with drum brakes... even when my '61 is loaded with tractors. |

Re: Snub nose C60
Yeah, it would definitely be something I would do what it needed to be safely driven and then leave it alone. No real need for it, it's just a cool truck. It's a 2 ton with a 17" bed. I didn't make it out to look at it today unfortunately. So, if I said the asking price was $500 obo you guys would say jump on it?

Re: Snub nose C60
Hope you get your truck. Look for solid hood, fenders running boards, these are hard to find, rockers and doors aren't really a problem. The good news 👍 are the Dayton's, my lcf had Widowmakers and the only available wheels will run $1200. Kept mine mostly original and that seemed to be cheapest. Good luck and keep us up to date. Pat

Re: Snub nose C60
That's an L series truck, so its an L60. They were called LCF's (low cab forward) but they're really just a short conventional. It's not a COE, those were the tilt cabs. Anyway, they were just a shorter nosed truck for better maneuverability, a compromise between a long hood truck and a COE.

Re: Snub nose C60
Yeah, the current owner told me the exterior is pretty solid. He didn't know about the interior. It's been in the family for a long time and has been sitting since '79. It was a wheat truck back in the day. I just would need to figure out how to get it on a trailer. I have a buddy with a 26' trailer but only a 4000lb winch...
