Courtesy and Dome Light Wiring

I have read several thread on this and can not find the info I need. I'm installing a new AAW harness and when I plug in their connectors the dome and courtesy lights come on and I can't get them to turn off. I am not using door jamb switches just the headlight switch. I understand the white wire is a switched ground run through the headlight switch. I thought maybe my headlight switch was bad so I unplugged the harness from it but the lights still dont turn off.

My electrical knowledge is limited so forgive me if I'm being stupid here. My thinking is the the circuit is grounded somewhere and that's the reason why they won't turn off? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Courtesy and Dome Light Wiring

You are on the right path, the dome light is hot all the time and has a switched ground that runs to the door jamb/headlight switch and once the switch knob is turned all the way counterclockwise it completes the circuit. I would verify with a multi-meter that both wires are functioning as they should. From what you describe, the white wire is being grounded somewhere it shouldn't be making the light stay on even when the harness is unplugged from the switch.

Thanks for the info. It’s good to know my thinking is correct
