Spare tire carrier

I'm looking for some suggestions as to where and how to install a carrier for a spare tire. Do these trucks have holes pre-drilled in the frame for a carrier below the bed? Did all the 67-72 trucks come with a carrier below the bed? I've seen some in the bed along a fender. Just unsure how they came stock and what options there are for one. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

They were available both with the underbed carrier, and the side mounted wheel carrier within the bed. Mine has two holes on the bedside where the carrier used to be...and S/M WHEEL CARRIER listed in the option sticker. However, my spare is currently laying in the back of my bed, where it slams into the tailgate whenever i floor it, or flys forward and hits my toolbox when i hit the brakest

I got the underbed carrier for $20 at salvageyard. I think they are all alike thru the 80's, til they came out with the cable type. You can get replacement hangers and nuts at hardware store.

Hi GMAN, I take it the carrier is for your K10. I dont know if you just want a spare carrier or you are restoring. But, if you are restoring, the 4x4's had a slightly different stock carrier than the 4x2's. They were more heavy duty. It does mount under the bed and the holes are already in the frame. If you are looking for the 4x4 carrier, let me know, I have an extra in decent shape.

I went to the junkyard and got one off of a early 90's dodge pickup (the style that still has the sealed beam square headlights) for $20. Then I cut the length by ~3" because it is just too long. Go get you a super long bolt (I think I used like 8-10") to bolt it to the frame. I can't measure now, the truck is 300mi away (mom is cruizing it around ) But when you set it in, you will figure out how long it will need to be.
Make sure you get the little hook part so you can hang/lower the tire.

72 cheyenne,

Sorry, had to go out of town on monday. Always good to be home. Yeah, sounds like thats what I'm looking for. I want original if possible. What pieces are included? What do you need for it? Where would you be shipping from? The original didn't have something to lower it with like "sweet7t" mentioned above on the dodge, did it? Let me know. Thanks!
