Door locks??
How were the original 59 Chevy/GMC doors lock from the factory?
Did it have key locks on both doors, or just the passenger door like a 46? If just a key lock on passenger door, how do you lock the driver door? My 59 only had one door, driver, with no key lock on it. thanks

I believe your truck would only have a key lock on passenger side, a lock on the drivers side was an option. To lock my truck (1953) I have to push inside handle forward to lock drivers side then slide out the passenger side and lock the outside handle. It was a safety thing to keep people from standing in the road to lock drivers door. You can buy locks for both doors from any of the old truck parts vendors, they also come in kits with for locks so that your ignition, doors and glove box are all keyed the same.

You can take the passenger and driver side handles and switch them one to the other,
Back in the day parking was different, you parked on the side of the street and lock your drivers door, slid over and exited out the passenger side of the vehicle and locked it from the passenger side onto the curb of the street to keep you safe from exiting into the coming traffic. Allen |

That and the majority of people weren't in the habit of locking their trucks then anyhow. Unless you had something inside that needed to be kept safe you seldom locked one. At least around here and in McGregor Tx when I was first married and bought my 48. I think the first time I locked it was at the motel when we went to the Street Rod Nationals in Tulsa in 1973.

Thanks all, and NorCalGal, I will try the inside handle to lock the door.
I have a 42, 46, and 67 and am familiar with those and the differences but the 59 was missing a door.

Lock kit for one door that should fit the drivers door and you would need two keys = one for each door. https://www.classicparts.com/1955-59...ctinfo/18-149/ Another option if you have access to a second passenger door handle, rob the lock mechanism from it have a key coded either from the code or to match your passenger key and have at it. That could be more costly than new locks though as one shop wanted 45 to code one key locally while my go to shop charges around 10 last time I was there and probably 15 now.
