Yep, did another roadtrip!

Went to the Decatur texas swap meet last weekend from northern MN. Typical -30s windchills here so its time to go!
3" of fresh snow to leave on...
Lost the alternator about an hour and a half into the trip and 10 miles from the nearest town. Fixed that in a parking lot and put on a new belt while I had it apart.
On the road again... until southern MN and northern Iowa where there was winter storm warnings. 32 degrees, rain/snow/freezing rain/slush etc...

Re: Yep, did another roadtrip!

Finally made it to joesjunk 2 hours behind schedule. He stored a pair of buddy bucket seats I bought from 72ironmike. Thanks to both of these guys and great to see more of your trucks joe.
First junkyard in OK. T-shirt weather on the first day, not so much the next day. Lots of squares there, not much for 67-72s

Re: Yep, did another roadtrip!

I thought about pulling the cab off the orange 72, but it had plenty of rust up high.
I did manage a 68 cab off craigslist and a 70 CST big block cab in Wichita falls. Both will need rust repair unfortunately, but still better than Minnesota stuff. Here is the final tally...

Re: Yep, did another roadtrip!

2714 miles in a week. Went over a set of really rough railroad tracks and evidently lost some of my trailer wiring. (The car behind me REALLY let me know that) Tried to patch it up in the am, but looked to get involved so I managed to make it home without tail lights.
Hope you enjoyed another roadtrip with me.

Good to see you made it home OK. How was the swap meet overall? It is supposed to be a pretty decent one for older stuff. I have been to Pate but have never made it to Decatur.

It was pretty good. Quite a few empty spots this year.
I had your number handy thinking about the trailer lights heading into the evening. On sunday, the sun was shining and temps were good so I hit it hard for home.

Re: Yep, did another roadtrip!

There is a small junkyard near me that is only open on Saturday and probably has fifteen to twenty 67-72 trucks. A couple are very straight and complete that he will only sell whole.

Re: Yep, did another roadtrip!

Glad you had a safe trip Eric, its always cool seeing your junkyard pics. I know a guy that has over 100 67 to 72s right about the Missouri Iowa line on I-29 , hes been hoarding for years.

The Wichita Kansas swap meet is coming up March 13th & 14th , I've been a couple times and its pretty good.

Hey Rob,

Good to see you on the board....

Maybe those trucks have been under water with all the flooding?

Don't need too many tools to take these old trucks apart. I needed more tools I didn't have to change the belt and alternator on my 01!

These trips are NOT getting any easier to find stuff, but you have to try.

Thanks Leon, Im not sure if that area was affected by the flood or not. I know they did to the West. I drove to Shenandoah to pick up an anvil when I-29 was closed and ended up being a 10 hour drive.
