welding that plate is going to distort it terribly and it had to be perfectly smooth to seal properly. you might wanna bite the bullet and get another kit. where did you put the ball and did you put it in the valve body or above the plate in the transmission.

Don't know that much about auto trannies but there is more than one way to plug a hole. You can go down to napa an expansion plug, like a freeze plug to install. I don't know if the have them in 3/16 I have a 3/8 so they do get pretty small. You could also tap it for a machine thread or pipe thread. You could also get a piece of 3/16 cold rolled round and fuller the end( just tap it with a hammer until the end is a little bigger, cut off the appropriate lenght and tap it into the hole. Then take a punch and tap the other end while backing up the first end. In other words make a rivit out of it. Or just epoxy the piece in there.

walker he cant do what you suggested because the plate sandwiches between the valve body and the transmission case itself. besides if by chance that plug would fall out or work loose goodbye tranny. did the kit come with a new plate or did u reuse the stock plate?

they are supposed to be on the transmission side.is this a fresh rebuild or was it a known working unit that you added the kit to? if its a fresh rebuild see if its engaging into low gear. low and reverse share a lot of things inside the transmission. if low gear isnt applying that would suggest a problem in the transmission itself. but if the transmission was working ok and was used before you problem is somewhere in the valve body. whos shift kit was it. was it a tci kit?? or...

Between the check ball in the wrong spot and the hole drilled in the wrong spot the fluid is not being routed were it needs to go!Get a new plate,as someone else said it needs to be flat.I dont know if you could weld and grind it flat without warping it.Double check every thing as you put it back together. The balls must be in the right place and the right #of balls.Make sure the oil transfer slot is in correct.
