47-55.1 Easy Floor Panel Installation Question

I have what should be a quick easy question. How is everyone tying in the aft end of a floor panel with the flange of the seat riser? Do people just overlay the floor panel and bead weld the new seam? If so what haapens where the floor panel steps down off the seat riser flange? I have seen one person cut the original floor from underneath the seat riser flange and install the new floor under the flange. It looked completely original but I'm not confident I could cut the original floor and not cut through the seat riser flange.

If it were me I would cut the spot welds and at least lift the seat base enough to properly install the new floor.

There is no law that says you can't trim the new piece to fit and work around the seat frame though. I'd say most guys trim away the bad part of the old floor and trim the patch panel to fit.

The general rule of patch panels is to leave as much original metal as possible and trim the patch panel to fit. Is your floor so bad that you really need to go back that far?

I've removed seat pedestals before; they are seriously spot welded down - to detach it would cause more problems than it fixes.

Ultimately it doesn't matter if you trim it or overlap it because it's going to be covered by sound deadener, carpet and/or floormat and never show anyway.
