Motor mount reccomendations
Having read numerous threads on motor swaps, various mount techniques and combinations of parts, I've learned more than I though there was to know about motor mounts. For example I discovered GM once had a problem with the drivers side mount separating and the throttle going wide open if the vehicle had a solid linkage as opposed to a cable. That's an interesting thing to learn since I believe the the mounts on my truck are probably original.
I am planning to install a 383 in my 70 C30 and would like to know that my mounts aren't likely to surprise me so they're due to be replaced. What I'm asking for is a recommendation on a good set. Any thoughts on this? I was looking at these.. https://energysuspension.com/energy-...otor-mount-set and they're probably good but don't really know. Could use some advise |

Re: Motor mount reccomendations
Swap over to the square body style. You will have to get the frame stands and block mounted clam shells for it to work, but they can't separate. And they really isolate the engine vibrations better.

Re: Motor mount reccomendations
Thank you for the response Clay. So If I am understanding correctly, a set of perches and clamshell mounts from...say a 74-maybe 87 would work? Same motor height?
Something like this maybe...https://www.lmctruck.com/1973-87-che...nt-and-bracket Last edited by Richard2112; 03-28-2020 at 10:27 PM. |

Re: Motor mount reccomendations
I used POL (ECM 6872) as my frame mounts and for the engine mounts I used Pronto EM-2885 from Jegs. I have a 70 C10 with a BBC 396, this may not apply to your setup.

Re: Motor mount reccomendations
If you use big block 72 type they should bolt in. My 67 frame is already powdercoated and I thought about changing but I have to file my frame back so I have thought about cutting the mount and taking an 1/8 inch or so out and bolting the upper part under the frame top so I don't have to mess up the finish.

Re: Motor mount reccomendations
Thanks for all the help folks. I've changed motor mounts before but always used the stock replacement and never seemed to have a problem. Now when it comes to changing to a different type of mount, that gives me some difficulty. I have recently purchased these and going on logic alone, seems they should work in my C30 (2WD). I'll still need the upper shell half but it's the perches that concern me. I hope they'll work Much thanks again.
