Scissors Jack

When I bought my truck it had a spare tire and a scissors jack in the bed along with some other junk. The scissors jack could be easily overlooked. Upon closer look, it's actually pretty cool. In working order, and the part you'd have in your hand to crank it is wood and in good shape (just dirty and grimy as the rest of it. So it seems I have a neat original jack. I notice behind the bench seat on the passenger side is a spring mounted to the floor. I'm assuming the jack went here. Anyone have pics of the correct placement of the jack and handle?

The original jack would have been a bottle jack, not scissor jack, and after all these years approximately 0% of trucks still have the jack. I do like scissor jacks.

And in 1968 the handle was stored differently, it is on the floor of the cab under the seat. See which spring you have, the one that holds the bag of tools upright, or the one that holds the handle to the floor in front of the gas tank.

The spring is located on the floor. Can't take a pic of the spring because the truck is currently at my mechanic's place getting a new engine put in. I'll take a pic of my jack though. Kind of disappointed it's not original equipment. Oh well

Try it out and see if it lifts high enough to change a tire in the front and in the back. If it does, then you probably have something better than what came with the truck. If the jack works for your truck, with welding skills or by getting in touch with somebody who welds, you could modify the handle to make it nice and long so you don't have to get under the truck to crank.
