Behind the buckets
Restoring a 72 SWB Cheyenne. Using factory buckets and console. Moved gas tank to under bed. Would appreciate ideas of what to do with space behind seats where factory tank was located. Pictures would be nice. Thanks

Interesting thread, I'm in the same process. I have my truck almost back together, have the factory buckets with console, but not sure now if that's what I want. I believe the carpet is different for the buckets, and I believe you can get a carpet that is longer to cover the tank area once the tank is removed. I know we have to drill a lot of new holes and fill the old ones, plus the bolts need some sort of reinforcement underneath. Either way I'm going to need new carpet and new seat covers. Looking forward to your responses.

I built a speaker box and bought cab corner metal plates for the sides with speakers. I covered it all with the grey carpet you buy at parts store. I used the old gas tank bolt holes to hold it in place.
If you look at the bottom of my console I drilled a hole and installed a 12 volt fan to keep the 2 amps cool that are inside the console.

Same here. I made my own floor braces and they really stiffened it up. My tank is also moved to the rear of the frame. I'm thinking for the cab corners down low having 6x9 speakers and above that building some sort of pocket shelves. There's alot of dead space there that needs to be used. I'll make it one piece and removable. Now for behind the seats I'll probably have a amp with subs but was thinking also of hidden gun rack . If you took some plywood ect in the same area as the old gas tank and hinged it at the bottom it could be covered with carpet and would look factory but in inside could house alot of stuff. On this fourm there's a guy making the cab corner 6x9 speaker brackets, but they go from the floor to the top and block all the rest of thr space.
