Question Swapping '98 Dash

Anyone know anything about swapping a '98 dash into a 81-87 truck? I saw in the latest Truckin' mag where a guy did this in his '72 I believe, and I think it looks awesome. Can anyone provide me with any info? Thanks!!!

I can tell you that no one here has done it, but with a sawzall, a welder and some time, anything is possible.

Thay had a newer dash swap picture in one of the mags a couple years back. The newer trucks from the 90's are not as wide as the older trucks. Like 4 inches less at the point the dash attaches. Leaves a gap at the side of the dash as a result.

I beleive fitting the dash in the truck would be possible for a hands on guy. The wiring for the gauges to operate is the hard part.

Actually that was the yellow Pro-street 79 that had a 98 Chevy dash in it. I saw the truck at Houston Auto-Rama last weekend, and it is a nice truck.

The dash was using the 98 gauges, and looked like it fit pretty good, but I couldn't get very close.

Unfortunately I can't give any insight on what was involved in the conversion. There wasn't any one around the truck to talk with about it.

The article says the owner's have a body shop in Tomball, TX by the name of Esh's Enterprises. Give them a call, maybe they can tell you what is involved.

That truck is very nice in person.

I like it because it's subtle but will get people scratching thier head. Plus he's got an 88+ bumper and the 88-91 'Burb front clip.

Yeah, even though I am not a Pro-Street fan, I did like the truck. It was put together very well...

Pretty clean job. I like the center consol. I do see one problem. To get it in they rocked the dash back. The face of the bezzel arounf the gages that has the vents should be vertical. They tipped the top back to get it against the windsheild or to get the right angle on the steering colum.

I think our dash looks way better, especially a silverado one. I hate black plastic everywhere and the newer gauges are fugly

I agree. Sometimes folks do things just to be different, which is fine I guess. But why do it and make things look worse. I like the way our dashes look. Late model stuff is too plasticy (is that a word?) and busy.

Check the 73+ Blazer board. Guy named Monypit has pics of a newer dash installed in a 73 Blazer. Just pics of the dash shell for now though. I kinda like the way it looks myself from the pics I have seen but would have to see it in person before I decided for sure to do it to mine. Heres the link

Hmmm....

That looks like a ton of work to pull off. Again, some of the stuff us truck guys do just to be different.

Considering what the rest of the truck looks like, the dash looks like another small piece of the puzzle. I can see people wanting something different, I'm just not sure that's the way to go.

Maybe I'll put a 67-72 dash in mine...or.....95 to 99 door panels
