Door Glass

This weekend the Glass on the passenger side door came loose from the frame. It appears the adhesive is just old and dried out.

I ordered Item 18 (38-5932
Glass Setting Rubber) in the photo. how hard will this be to reset the glass?

Setting the glass isn't hard. Use a wire brush to clean the channel. Fold the rubber over the edge of the glass and spray some glass cleaner on it for lubrication. Use a rubber mallet to tap the channel onto the glass.

I bought same setting rubber but instead used 3M windshield urethane. I didn't like the idea of friction holding the glass in and I was skeptical of it because one of my door glasses came out of the channel pretty easy during disassembly. The windshield urethane isn't hard to work with, just heat it up and work fast because it starts drying pretty quick. But with the urethane it creates a bond. I masked off the glass and the channels so it didn't ooze out everywhere when you put the glass in. Then used a couple bar clamps to hold them in place for the day. If you don't have bar clamps you can use ratchet straps too.

Most modern door glass is set with epoxy. You can get urethane windshield adhesive at most auto parts stores. JB Kwik Weld is the epoxy I recommend. Use a couple of cardboard spacers at either end of the channel to make sure there's some space between the glass and the metal - a strip 1/4" wide will work. Just fold it and put one in each end of the channel before you glue in the glass. The advantage of doing it this way is that you can do it with the channel installed in the door.

Just be aware that if you ever break the door glass it's going to be a bear to get the channel clean.

Truckster has a good point, it will be difficult to get that channel cleaned out if you fill it with epoxy.
