66 column shifter boot and handle questions

Is there a replacement part for this boot? And does the black knob twist off or pull off?

On my 63, the knob just pulls off. It's a fairly tight fit

Re: 66 column shifter boot and handle questions

Thanks Christian, I'll give it a tug. Anyone found a replacement boot? I may have to reuse this cracked up one.

I'm amazed that you still have the boot, or part of it. It's difficult to tell from the pic if some of it has torn away over time. I *think* the part number is:

#26044259 GM Steering Column Shift Lever Seal/Boot

Searches for the above show some sites carry it but are out of stock. I have seen a similar replacement one from Dorman:
https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-75033-47102.aspx

Perhaps others will chime in with more info.

Yeah the shape of the one I have assuming it's original looks so different from the others Ive seen. The dorman I think is for the floor though.

Re: 66 column shifter boot and handle questions

fyi: I gave The Truck Shop in Orange a call but they didn't have them nor the anti-rattle bushing for the tilt column shift lever.

It looks like Amazon has them:

Re: 66 column shifter boot and handle questions

Anybody know if you can put the old style 63-66 knob on the next generation 67-72 shift lever ? Newer style shaft looks bigger diameter but maybe not the part where the knob slips on?

Not sure but it sure looks like that shim will help with shift lever rattle when driving rough roads. Keep us updated if you end up purchasing these parts.
