250 oil guage

I have a 70 c10 with a 250. I already rewired and hand the gauge cluster to go from dummy light to gauges. My question is (since I don’t like the idea of oil in the cab) is there and gauges out there that look like the original but that are digital? Or has anyone been able to convert their gauge? Tia

Re: 250 oil guage

The Dakota Digital solution is excellent, but pricy. VDO, Stewart-Warner all make line of electrical gauges that use a pressure sensor with a single wire connection on the engine.

Drop a PM to Tbone1964 he may be able to convert your existing oil gauge to an electrical gauge. He is the resident expert on gauge restoration and upgrades.

Re: 250 oil guage

My live oil pressure gauge has been in the truck for 50 years and hasn't leaked yet. One rebuild in the mix about 100k miles ago.

Re: 250 oil guage

Was a thought. I have seen a line bust in my dads 67 about 3 in from the gauge and shot oil all over the cab. I did check and it would cost a lot to go digital. question = how many psi at the original gauges? and it there a way i can test it before i connect it oil? What would you recommend plastic or brass line? and is there a kit out there as it has dummy lights before that would make it easier. thanks

You want brass lines. Plastic will get brittle and fail in a hot desert-like environment.
I know how you feel, I once got dirty black oil over some new tan suede pull-on boots when the connector on the back of the Oil Pressure gauge came loose. I'd been working on the dash lights and had loosened the OP gauge to get better access. My own fault. The truck, a '71 GMC Jimmy with deluxe gauges, was new to me. The old truck had the idiot lights.
How much PSI? My Gauge, a Stewart-Warner, reads about 40 PSI running normal, warmed up. It can get up to 60 PSI. I have a 292, but it should be similar.
There are ways of keeping the Idiot Light functions and using a mechanical gauge. It takes a special fitting that includes both probes, I think.
The oil stains came out with some talc powder and a brass suede brush. I think it gave them ''character.'' But I've never had that same problem again, since I know about it.

Original gauge is 60 PSI, I believe. I think I read here that the big trucks had a gauge that went to 80 PSI. You should be able to find an electric gauge without going digital. You'll have to buy a sender, as well. I believe that the original line to the gauge is steel. Brass will eventually fatigue and break if the engine moves around much, which it shouldn't.

I have copper oil pressure line kits with original fittings.

Definitely go with copper. I've had plastic fail on my 78 and destroyed the carpet with oil. Never heard of the copper ones failing....

Re: 250 oil guage

Another route to go would be to use a high pressure fuel guage isolator. That will keep the oil in front of the firewall. It may seem spendy but probably not when compared to all the other options, short of just replacing the old line with a new one.

I guess the OP meant copper when he said brass. I meant the metal one, not plastic.
I've had the metal Oil Pressure feed line to my gauge in my '68 C /10 [292 L6] since about 1978. Metal fatigue? Maybe if I was going about 400 - 450 knots and doing 5 - 7 G manuevers for hundreds of hours, I might need to worry about it.
But I rarely catch air anymore.

Re: 250 oil guage

Well went ahead and ordered a new gauge as well at the copper line kit (wish I had seen docs first). One thing that comes to mind is, is there a fitting that goes into the block that the line would go to? Or does the line go straight to the block? Got it from lmc. If I do need a fitting for the block does anyone know the size? Thanks as always
