A/C Question
When I bought my truck 5 years ago this valve lever thing was on it and I guess you open it for colder temp driving and close it for summer driving. Now where its attached to on the A/C side it looks like some kind of valve underneath and I'm figuring that is shot and that's why the lever thing is there, as a cheap fix. I'm getting where I want to get that out of there and replace the red hose with a black one so what is the thing called on the A/C side of the hose and are they available.

The other valve is called a water control valve or heater control valve. They are available at many places. Here's one: https://www.classicindustries.com/pr...ts/ap4610.html

Re: A/C Question
Thats a ball valve that is auxiliary to the factory water valve down stream in your picture.
The factory one probably is leaking. Ac delco 15-51293 is what you need to replace yours. The valve closes when ac is in recirc mode. |

Re: A/C Question
Thank you.. RockAuto has the AC Delco one you mentioned. I will get it ordered up this week along with some other items I've been wanting to get.

Re: A/C Question
If you are wanting a 100% AC to work good then I would leave it. That ensures the hot water doesn't come into the cab while the AC is on. Most people put it in the other line though. If the vacuum operated valve leaks hot water by then your AC will never get as cold as it should inside the cab. Putting it in the other line makes sure it doesn't circulate at all through the heater core.
If you do decide to take it out a simple test is to feel the lower part of the interior heater box to see if it is warm when the AC is on and the truck is sitting still. If it is some what warm then you have water leaking by the vacuum valve and you will not get the cab as cool as it could be.

Re: A/C Question
It could be that your vacuum hose(s) to operate the factory valve have become brittle, cracked and are leaking and a possibility as to why they added the ball valve was installed. If the new valve does not solve the problem I'd give the vacuum hoses the eagle eye.

Re: A/C Question
I'm replacing my heater core pretty much as soon as truck is out of storage and plan to check everything in heater box etc. at same time.

Re: A/C Question
I can almost guarantee the vac hoses are bad, i had some nice looking sets and tried to use them, they all cracked at the nipple after a couple of months.
Definately check that. OER makes a copper heater core, it isnt cheap at $109 or so. I installed an aluminum one last year and it was a real chore, the core is too thin and you have to make a spacer for it to fit. Buy the copper one it looks like factory. |

Re: A/C Question
I install one in every truck I own. It's a good way to get the cab cooler here in the south.
Just for some more info. Even if the heater is off the hot water can come into the heater core. My Ramp truck is only heat and it would get so hot you couldn't stand it. I put the shut off in the line and it's nice during the summer now.
