School me on 16.5 Tires/rims

I need tires for my 1963 C20, it has the 16.5 LT tires, wondering if there are options.

Do I stick with these wheels? I heard 16" tires wil NOT fit.

Is there another 16" wheel with the same bolt pattern?

I really don't want to address the disc conversion yet, that may happen in a year or two.

I also have an extra set of rims for this truck, not even sure if they are worth anything or not.

Thanks!

I'm told all the tire shops can order them but was told that Firestone is the only company that makes 16.5''s nowadays, who knows?

If you have a Big-O tire dealer call them.

OK. What about getting some rims, do they make these in the normal sizes for the old C20 lug size/style?

I would like to keep the original hubcaps too.

Re: School me on 16.5 Tires/rims

You can switch to 16" 8 lug wheels which are also available if you want a little larger tire choice. Also note that GM, Ford, and Dodge share the same 8 lug pattern.
16x7 eight lug ford wheels. The ones I bought were off a E 250 van 1999. The best way to go. Stock chevy caps fit on them.
Then get 235/85R16 tires. That's a very common size with a large selection to choose from -- brand, tread pattern, price etc.

Re: School me on 16.5 Tires/rims

I bought one wheel in 16" from a wrecking yard to use as a spare. I have the Firestone Transforce tires now because the wife wanted to go camping and I didn't have time to wait for 16" wheels to be ordered. It's what I'll do next time. Just so you know (if you didn't) the intent for the odd ball size was so that only a correctly rated tire could be mounted. I'd be careful when buying 16" tires that I got some with a heavy duty enough rating. Pulling a 6k pound trailer with a heavy truck is no place for may-pop tires.

Re: School me on 16.5 Tires/rims

16.5" was standard fare in the 70's. Did exist is the 60's, but rare, they were clip style for hubcap retention. Mostly likely, the 16.5 on your '63 are not original to your vehicle. I would stay with the 16.5. Radial tires can be found in the price range of the 16". An example with free shipping. https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Firestone...gAAOSwY3Vec8vC
