Engine Lift Tool

On the 60 to 66 C10's has anyone used the Mac's Tie-Downs PIVOT Engine Lift Plate with any success? I'm worried about the load leveling front to rear bar hitting the firewall as it did before it was painted.
I saw one on Texas metal that used straps. They used it side to side. FYI my grill, and grill support will not be on the truck when the engine is installed.

Re: Engine Lift Tool

The Macs leveler lift works pretty well. I also have a sling, but only use it side to side where the bar is parallel with the firewall. Will you have the transmission bolted to the block?

I ended up in a jam with this too. Solved it with a pad on the front and had to bottle jack it forward once I set it down to line up with the mounts. Having a different rig would have been great. Less worry.

Yes I want to install the engine trans same time. How does it work with the trans bolted to the block? Does it hit the firewall?

That's one way. That's what I had before it was painted.
I think the side to side sling might work better? I don't know that's why I'm asking.

Re: Engine Lift Tool

Here is one from Jegs with a lot of adjustment capabilities.

Link:https://www.jegs.com/i/OEMTOOLS/693/24831/10002/-1

The bolts could be removed to have the crank on the other end if needed.

Also chains could be set to different lengths

If you have the trans bolted to the block, the load leveler would work better. I still usually have a helper underneath to guide the tail of the transmission.

Load leveler, okay.
What would happen if I used the chain leveler only sideways? May work.

I had the same thought to avoid a run in with the firewall, but I dont think that you can tilt the engine trans unit downward like you would need to, just a left right tilt is all you would get.

You would only be able to adjust the level side to side, not front to back.

The carb plate leveler by Mac would work the best of the ones you mentioned since you'll need to level the engine/trans front to back due to the weight of the transmission on the backside of the block. I would still have a helper underneath to help guide the tailshaft of the transmission.

Re: Engine Lift Tool

I did mine as pictured but had trouble with straps and bolts hitting the fire wall. We managed to get it in but if I did it again I'd hook the back ones to the side of the heads.
