I got the wiper motor swapped out no problem. Also replaced the defrost hosing. One was ripped all apart, and the other was completely clogged with leaves- wish I had done that a long time ago. My motor was a three wire connector, btw.

Now that I got that done, today I broke a second lever off of my heater control. I am wonering if I should replace the levers, or if I should just get a whole 'nother heater control. I will ask on the parts board, but don't have the money yet. If the levers aren't easy to switch out I guess I should just get a new box.

Non ac heater control levers are easy to replace and the replacement kit uses a better quality steel than the old pot metal ones. Get the kit and replace all 3 levers at the same time!

Also free up your cables before adding new levers--WD40

Good. I thought I had heard the controls were somewhat of a PITA to replace, apparently that is AC units, though. Thanks for the replies.

It took maybe an hour to remove repair and replace the control unit on mine.I spaced it out over a couple of days so I could paint the unit.I had a cable frozen solid.I put it in the parts washer for a day or two then in a drain pan of oil for a couple of days.I lube it ocassionally but it's been good for 5 years.

Controls can be a PITA, but patience, WD40, and Samuel Adams ease the pain. New is well worth it.

my 72's heater doesnt seem to work. the fan lever in the middle of the 3 levers for a non ac truck broke off i think. but before i bought it. who sells the replacement kit?

I bought the kit...not too bad for $20 and was really easy to install

LMC Truck sells just about anything you need for these trucks. Plus GMC Pauls seems to have a pretty complete section but I can't vouch for them yet.

I saw one in a wrecking yard once with a unique heater control. Each broken lever had a flattened .357 Magnum case slipped through the slot & onto the stub. All 3 worked, although a bit stiffly.
