Which axle is better Dorman or Motive brands

I need to replace an axle shaft that is bent, which is a better brand ? Its for a 76 gmc 1/2 ton 2wd. Daily driver. had an issue with the drum getting hot, swapped side to side,no difference with the drum, but the drum on backwards and showed up that way.

Dorman has gone to the dogs if they were ever OK.
If you want to hear some coments about them watch Eric from South Main Auto on Youtube.

As far as parts go my strategy is
1. New Old Stock (If available and price is bearable.)
2 Look for good used. www.carpart.com, craigslist, Parts board on this site.
3 Look harder.
4 If all else fails, Chinese junk

Re: Which axle is better Dorman or Motive brands

I bought a Dorman axle shaft last summer for my 77 half ton 2wd. I needed one and Advance Auto could get it in the next day. I went over it meticulously before I paid for it and took it home. I counted splines, checked the bolt pattern, seal fitment, bearing fitment, ect. It checked out just fine and has been good so far.

I just got a dorman from advance also, the boss on the wheel end is not machined correctly, the drum will go on but the wheel will not seat correctly, i need to grind it down ? I;ve tried different wheels, no difference.

Unfortunately that's the kinda stuff that I've run into with Dorman.
Hit or miss on the quality control.
GM wheels are hub centric so you need that hub to be machined concentric with the centerline of the splines and the bearing contact surface as well as being the proper diameter. I'd ship it back and buy something else.
