Re: Aluminum grille question

Aluminum can indeed be plated. I'd call these guys - http://www.electroplatingelpaso.com/
I have used them as have many on this site.

Re: Aluminum grille question

Something to think about. If you can find a nice original steel grille to send to have chromed, you could sell your nice original aluminum grill to help offset the plating cost.

Agreed. Steel would be stronger too. A nice aluminum grill is worth saving for those that want just that. A straight steel grill will be cheap enough, and is easily chrome plated if that's the look you want.

Re: Aluminum grille question

Have you looked into the cost to have that aluminum grill chromed? Do you know how much it'll cost to have a steel grill chromed?
That is what I would use to determine the direction I'd go.
But still, I'd probably just try to trade with someone plus some cash.
Search the Classifieds section of these forums for steel grills to get an idea what a straight steel one would cost. Not to make this a 'What it's worth' thread, but you should post up some pics of yours.

Re: Aluminum grille question

It is even very expensive to have your grill re-anodized which is a must or you would be polishing it very regularly otherwise to keep it from oxidizing.

Re: Aluminum grille question

That's what I'd do. Especially if I like chrome over the softer shine of the original aluminum.
Buy a chrome one.
Sell the highly desired beautiful original aluminum grill.
.
Can we see some pictures?
Not a wtb, I like original white.

Re: Aluminum grille question

I've read that the aluminum grills are actually clear powder coated. If that's true then they should hold a shine for a long time if they were refreshed.
