Leaf spring suspension lowering question

Hi all, I have a 70 GMC long bed with stock suspension and I'd like to put a 5/7 static drop on it. Is it worth it to convert it to coils in the rear or just go with a leaf spring drop in the rear? What are the pros and cons without converting to coils? I have read that the ride can be harsh compared to coils but as of now it has a very nice ride.

Re: Leaf spring suspension lowering question

If you are happy with the ride in rear and want a 7" drop just use a flip kit. Ride should not change much if at all. Note that if you do not notch the frame you will be riding on or very close. ie: no suspension travel.

Hmmm I didn't realize 7" drop in the rear would get so close to the axle. I may have to go 4/6.

Re: Leaf spring suspension lowering question

The ride in my 71 with leafs is really not bad at all. I even have a coil C/20 to compare it to. I would love to drop the leaf 71 but it just seems a lot more work then a coil rear.

That's what I thought too but I spoke to Frank at Franks Pickmups and he's got a very simple drop kit. I believe he is on this forum if you wanted to contact him. I contacted him through craigslist as he is in Olympia south of Seattle, where I am.
