Flatbed question

68bowtie's build inspired me to get back my C30. The new owner wasn't doing anything with it so we made a deal. It wont be home for at least three weeks now so Im doing a little planning.

I really love the way 68bowties built his bed. I was hung up on making mine a dump bed and the cost led me to be kind of negative on this truck.

Ive been looking at a ton of flatbeds now and while I really like his D-ring set up on the sides of his bed, I really think I would like stake pockets. I saw this ride on craigs list. Good looking bed with stake pockets. Can you tell me what the use of the strapping that goes around the edge of the pockets and beds is for?

Link to 68bowties truck thread. And the pic of the flatbed in question.

That would make sense, something to keep the pockets from sticking out where they could get bent or torn off.

You could add a round tube between each stake pocket for additional tie down loop on the outside of your bed.

And something like these for the bed floor.

Re: Flatbed question

That flat bar strap is what flat bed semi trucks hook their tie down straps to. Super handy and tough, but now you be looking for them all the time along the highways, then stopping to pick them up.

Re: Flatbed question

The small, rectangular slots act as pockets for stakes for sides, too. I have a similar set up on my cannon trailer.

I went to the Buyers website to check it out further. Wow, they have a lot of cool stuff. But for the life of me I can not figure out how the tie down that you posted the ebay link for works. I know once its explained Ill pop my forehead with my hand.

Re: Flatbed question

The metal hook on the end slides down between the bed and the flat bar from the top with the open end of the hook away from the bed. Then it hooks under the flat bar. Do the ratchet side first and let it hang over the flat bar. Then go to the other side and hook the loose strap's hook the same way and toss the end over the load. Then feed the loose end into the ratchet's slot and pull up, pulling the ratchet up while keeping the hook under the flat bar. Then tighten the ratchet up until the strap is tight. Remember to put one twist in each side to prevent the straps from fluttering in the wind slowly becoming fuzz until the strap breaks. Next time you see a flat bed semi load take a look and you will see what I mean.

Re: Flatbed question

Here's how they work the top of the tube sits flush with the bed and you pull it up to hook your chain to.

Re: Flatbed question

Mount the top flush with your bed. When you need an anchor you pickup the end cap and you have a chain tie without wrapping around the rub rail or bed side.

Re: Flatbed question

I like these. When you need them they are there. Otherwise a clean flatbed.
