A/C Duct Oddity

I'm collecting all of the parts to put factory A/C in my '66. I have two complete underdash assemblies that appear to be correct. Both have a metal "leg" that is crudely cut off. I would guess that is non-factory except BOTH are cut in a similar way. For those with factory A/C trucks, is this correct?

The leg is coming off of the metal duct near the lower center of the dash panel. That part is the same for A/C, Deluxe Heat, and Thrift Air trucks. On non-A/C, the leg mounts to the dash panel. The A/C duct is shown on the left, the Thrift-Air duct is on the right.

This is the one from my 66. you need the one on the left with no arm.
