Shortbed Stepside Tonneau Cover

I am in the search for a tonneau cover for my stepside. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I found this one on LMC, but not quite sure how I feel about the velcro adhesive. Anyone tried this yet?

Re: Shortbed Stepside Tonneau Cover

It's funny you mentioned this, there was a "wind storm" recently here in Wisconsin and a tonneu cover flew off someone's truck! Unfortunately it's for a baby truck bed, it's only 5' 6" x 5' 6" (What's the point of having a truck with a bed like that? You can't even fit the groceries in it!) But it's for a fleetside, so I was going to cut off the sides and add them to the rear, but now that I know there's ones like that available I might not put forth the effort! If I had to choose between the two I would definitely go with the one on eBay. I don't like the idea of Velcro permanently stuck to my truck. But then again the one from LMC looks like you could take it off and store it more readily. So now I'm back to making my own with a mixture of the two!

Re: Shortbed Stepside Tonneau Cover

Well the one from eBay is removable as well. The front edge is not bolted on and it rolls up all together. You would still have the shocks and the latches bolted on that would have to be unbolted.

One of the other hiccups that we are running into is the fact that I have hidden tailgate latches on the inside of the bed. Is there a way to open the cover without opening the tailgate? I messages the person on eBay a couple of days ago and have had no response.

Your going to have to open the tailgate to get to the latch for the cover

So Craftec messaged me back, and it appears that I will need to use bearclaw latches that work on a pulley system which comes to one center pull strap that releases both latches.

It is the same system that they use on their El Camino covers. They sent me this video as an example:https://youtu.be/jd9vsly5MXs
