Heater box removal

Trying to remove the inside heater box (correct term?). It looks like it's attached to the inner firewall with several of these. What are they and how do I remove them? Attachment got turned sideways. Thanks

Those are bolts. There is a nut on the outside of the firewall for each one of them. the bottom ones are hard to get to.

you may have a difficult time finding and accessing the nuts between the inner fender and heater core/fan enclosure so most people suggest removing or at least lowering the liner..

this thread or other heater core replacement threads should help illustrate that for you Heater Core Replacement (non-A/C)

so depending on what you're planning to do in there, you may want to evaluate your system for possible related repairs or preventive maintenance you can do while you're in there..

for instance (on a completely different model truck) we have a series of trucks that the heater core and evaporator replacement requires stripping the cab down to the pan..

so we automatically replace both regardless of which failed, along with a couple of actuators and mechanical items prone to fail because of the labor investment..

Thanks to both of you. I'm on a "search & destroy" mission to make room for Vintage Air, so no worries about damaging anything. What had me stumped was that I had removed all nuts from the engine side of the firewall and the box was still mounted tight on the inside. Wasn't sure if those were bolts or not because of the round, smooth heads. I had to go to the engine side and smack the bolts back in with a hammer before the threads came loose in the holes. I got it out. Thanks again.

If that is in decent condition , try not to damage it . People on this site are looking for decent parts

Will do. The truck came with factory AC. I'll be saving all the parts I remove.
