trans cross member information

I am changing from 3ott to automatic trans and the cross member for the 3ott is in the way. It is riveted in top and bottom in 4 places. I can't get to the 2 top rivets because they are under the cab, so what is the best way to get this mount off? And, what mount will I need at rear of auto trans? Any of you that have already done this, can you lead me through the procedure? Thanks!!

the top mount rivets can be got to from the bottom of the frame . you should be able to get to the bottom of the rivet with a air hammer pop the head off and push it up . as far as the auto trans mount they come up on here from time to time but their is aftermarket ones available

The engine was out of the Panel Truck when I took mine out but I still had to get to it from underneath. Broke it down into 3 pieces. Between the angle grinder and the air chisel I was victorious....

Re: trans cross member information

well, I got serious about getting the cross member out today. Only, mine didn't look like the pictures you guys posted. Mine was a disaster, at least in appearance. BUT, I did get it out after hours of cutting, grinding, chiseling. I used every tool in my arsenal and went through most of my cut off disc and Sawzall blades. There were a couple places that you just couldn't get to with a blade. I tried chiseling the heads off the rivets, but the rivets wouldn't drive out, so I started cutting. I will have to go back and clean things up a bit before I let anyone see my results.
I wanted to give a big thank you for the folks that encouraged me and gave me faith that I really could do this! And, best of all no one was injured and nothing on the truck was destroyed in the process. So, all in all, I'll consider it a Success....
