Driveshaft carrier bearing flange bolt size?
I've got the driveshaft from my 69 C10 LWB taken apart and discovered that a previous owner totally buggered the threads on the big bolt that keeps the splined flange on at the carrier bearing. Can anyone confirm the size of the threads? I'm going to try to chase them out and hopefully get away with just replacing the bolt. It looks like a 1/2-20 but mine looks like someone took a grinder to it and just ran it home with an impact.

Do you mean the splined flange on the back of the transmission? I don't think there is a bolt that large near the carrier bearing I will go out and check the one on my trans and shafts if that is what you mean. Edit: After going out and looking I see what you are talking about. That piece is called a yoke and it depends on the year of truck whether it has that setup or not.. I have a couple of driveshafts apart but I'm not sure what I did with the bolts. I would think that they would be fine threads and that would be 20. I have to take my wife to her Dr's appointment and I will do some more checking when I get back if you don't have your answer. LockDoc

Re: Driveshaft carrier bearing flange bolt size?
can u take to a drive shaft shop and have them install a new spline piece on the tube
Unless you are stuck on doing the repair yourself

Re: Driveshaft carrier bearing flange bolt size?
I believe I can save the shaft if I get a correct new bolt. The nearest driveshaft shop is 2 hours one way from my house so I'd rather save the time and money if I can.
**UPDATE** I managed to run a thread chaser into the shaft and it cleaned up nicely. I got a new 1/2x20 bolt which fit. Should be good to go now! Last edited by Zenwren; 05-13-2020 at 12:13 PM. |
