I’m installing a 700r4 in my c10 and I’m not sure if I should reuse the stock torque converter. According to the sticker on the converter it is rated for 1397 rpm. The trans will be behind a crate 350 that I think makes around 215 hp and it will be runining 3:73 open gears. I’m trying to make a cruiser for my commute not a drag strip monster. I’ve seen some guys suggest 2000 rpm stall but they had beefier engines. I am also going to use the painless performance lock up kick. Any suggestions?

You can reuse your converter if it's working and clean. I ran that exact lockup kit in my daily for 16 years, always worked great. 2000 stall speed is fine for a daily, that's what I ran. Stock converter for '95 up S10 with L35 V6. Gives awesome takeoff power behind a mild smallblock and stalls around 2000.

I could be wrong here but I don't think you would want to run a high stall converter with a stock motor, 700r4 and 373 gears. you would be below lockup at 55 and pulling a trailer would be out due to slippage of the converter.

So the stock 1397 rpm converter would be fine then? I would like to reuse it if I can to save some ones on the transmission swap.

Just to be clear, a 700R4 converter does not interchange with TH400 or a TH350 converter.

I was not sure about that. I know some guys run a non lockup converter for some reason on their 700r4.

Just to clear things up. The 1397 rpm converter is the converter out of the 700r4. And I plan to run a lock up so it does not cook the transmion. I will be doing mostly highway cruising at about 55-65 mph.

Yes, your stock converter will be fine.
