1969 K5 Blazer
Hi All,
Been working on this K5 for a while now for my dad and figured I'd share some pictures. Its a 1969 K5 Blazer CST originally in 514 red. There was definitely a respray done at some point in time that helped give it this great patina and rough around the edges look. I started first by just giving it a simple cut n buff. It has a 402 big block in it and someone swapped the front axle to discs. Otherwise the majority of the expensive interior bits are all there. I'll keep posting some photos of all the work we've done til now. |

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
Next up was body mounts before we separated the top to deal with the windshield frame header.

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
The top was an absolute pain to get off - all the bolts had seized to what was left of the weld nut strip in each side. So when i went unbolt them they just spun inside the top... Out came the sawzall.
After dealing with that, we braced and jigged the windshield frame. Cut, align, tack, check, weld etc. Came out very well! |

Thanks for sharing the photos and good luck on the build. What are your plans? Please keep the photos coming - would be fun to see a SPID shot if present.

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
Heres a shot of the spid - I don't think there are really any rare options on it but maybe someone else sees different.
Otherwise, plans are to get it back on the road without rust falling in my eyes! After all this rust repair, most likely do 33's on stock 15x8's as soon as I can get another set of wheels for my C10. |

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
The 69's are the best year in my opinion (I am a bit biased) I definitely will be following along!

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
A dana 20 TC with J shifter is one of the '69 only features and I don't believe it was for the whole production year. What do you know about it Pete?

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
Honestly next to nothing. I’d like to learn more. A thread dedicated to the 1969 model year would be fun.

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
Some more pictures, b-pillar build up and inner / outer rockers. I gotta say, this was pretty tricky to understand how this all went together especially when there was practically nothing left to show me the way. Thanks to all on this site who post their pictures!

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
Well done! Once you see how it all goes together - it makes complete sense. Working from nothing (rusted away)can be a bit challenging to envision how all the little pieces connect in that one area.

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
I was in a similar boat with regards to the b pillar. Very satisfying to get that portion all fixed up. Nice work!

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
Thanks all! Here's a picture of how the B pillar, rocker box, cap, etc all fit up before I fit the outer rocker and B pillar to wheel house skin. I planned ahead with my cut line on this piece to use the moldings to hide the weld line in case that didn't turn out to great.
Bonus picture - here's the pile of tetanus waiting to happen that I removed from this thing. |

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
got the panels prepped and primed. First coat of paint on the windshield frame did not match too well so back to the drawing board with color.

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
Got it painted and windshield installed (big pain with the CST trim...)
Also put on kilmat on the floor for deadening / isolation of this big block. Went on super easy! |

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
Here are some more after I got the belt moldings on. What do you think, with or without roll bar?

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
Much cleaner look without the roll bar. Safer with it obviously. Good progress!

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
I like the roll bar. I'm trying to find one to put into my Jimmy before I get the top finished.
Great progress! Pat |

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
Looks good, I would keep the roll bar for peace of mind.

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
Thanks guys, thinking the same thing. Keep roll bar on for safety... I got lucky finding one local. Had to cut the plates off on the vertical tubes and weld on new ones.

Re: 1969 K5 Blazer
It might look a little high. Might want to try it with the top on.
Just a suggestion.
