Hi guys. I tried searching the forum so sorry if this is repeat.

I have a 65 c10 stepside. Had the 230 I6, 3 on tree but when I sent it to the machine shop the engine was toast and already beyond further boring.

I've been looking in NM for a running 230 or 250 but have not been lucky on a good/fair priced used. I have seen some 3.3Lv6 from a 1970 truck and even a 69 chevy v8.

What are my bolt in options without having to move mounts? Obviously the 230 and 250 I6 are the same.

If I have to re-weld mounts I'll just go LS but want this one to be semi-original.

The frame stands for the 230, 250, and small block chevy are the same for 63-66. The 292 is the one with the different frame stand on the passenger side.
My 283 bolts up perfectly to the inline 6 frame stands

Sure thing! Also, the bellhousings are the same, unless something was changed previously, so you shouldn't have a problem if you choose to stay inline 6 or go sbc.

My 230 blew up as well, I put a SBC from a '79 van. It's got a new crate motor now. Bolted right in with no problems. '64 C10 LWB Fleetside.

SO then not just the 283 but any SBC should bolt in? 327, 350?

Is there a date range? 60-66?

Nappers, Did that 1979 just fit on the mounts and line up perfect with the tranny bolts on the crossmember?

Any sbc block that has the side mount holes will bolt up. Some of the early 265s and 283s that used the front mount didn't have the side mount casting

thanks. I've run into a 283 with the front mounts. We have one that came out of my father in laws 57. But at least now I can find something that will work and I have plenty of options

That's one of the best parts about the sbc. Chevy used it in everything, so there's tons of options out there

Yes any small block Chevy from '57-2002 from a 262 to a 400. From '86 and up you will need a different flywheel or flexplate.

I pulled only the motor, the SBC bolted right up. As usual, the motor mount hole may not line up perfectly at first, but after a temper tantrum and enormous surge of energy I moved the block enough to get the bolt through. The new crate motor bolted right up. Based the new motor on a "69 C-10" to my parts guy.

If memory serves, 63-66 it will fit from reading from these fine folks. Older models only requires a motor mount change from I-6 to V-8.
