Heater Questions

I have an 86 chevy 4x4 and I have a problem with the Defrost and Vents working properly. When you have the Defrost on it blows out the vents and everything else but if you put it on the vents it doesn't blow out the defrost. Anyone have any idea whats the problem.

could be the control assembly that switches vacum to seperate ports or could be a accuator valve, or could be a stuck or bad seal on the vent door switching betwen the defrost or vent system, these things can be tricky, I have been fighting with mine which is doing the opposite of yours (mine is a 88 blazer).

here is your parts though that could be the problem.

Take the glove box off. Behind the glove box you will see a cable that goes to the Diverter Flap. Reach over that cable till you hit the fire wall. Your hand should be directly over the Vacuum motor that controls that flap that send it dash or defroster. If that heataer core has been replaced I bet they frogot to hook the line to it. Sould be able to feel the nipple thathe line goes on. Line should loop over the box in that area.
