throttle linkage from old to new

Does anyone know how to use original throttle linkage with the cable at carb for newer throttle hook ups?? I want to use the more modern throttle cable at carb but retain the original foot pedal for truck. I'm open for other suggestions of how to set this up. Thanks!!

Get a throttle cable setup out of a 72.

Sonny the linkage for the gas pedal you show on the firewall should be inside the cab. The '71/'72 cable goes through a grommet in the firewall and connects to the rod you are showing on the outside firewall. In the picture of the firewall,
the cable goes through just below the wire bundle to the left. The carb the upper cable is the throttle. And the third is a poor picture of the complete throttle assy for a '71/'72. As it would be positioned inside the cab on the firewall.

I was going to do the same thing. Picked up a complete assembly out of a 72. It doesn't just bolt in. Looked like it was going to be some work, especially because the cab is not stripped. It bolts to the firewall much higher than the rod pedal assembly. I ended up leaving it alone for now.

No, it's not straight across, but I think it's the easiest way to make the switch.

Wrong. Pre-71 it was mounted as shown in easyrider's picture.

Realized that after I posted. Haven't ever had anything other than my '71. I would use the '71 cable and resize from the pedal end.

I was looking at the one Lock Doc posted and I like his set up. using the original set up and adding the cable carb end with an adapter bolted to the outside rod on throttle assy. you would make the adjustment by set screw on cable. I need to acquire a late model throttle cable and try to adapt it I think....

On my 68 I used some spherical rod ends and stainless all thread. I couldn't get the factory linkage to work with my edelbrock carb. Works way better and was much easier than converting to a cable. I get a picture for you tomorrow.

I have a 84 305 with a 4 bbl carb and the newer cable linkage that I want to attach to my original throttle assy. on my 68. It will need to be a sorta' hybrid of both worlds.

Just so I'm clear your 84 305 carburetor has the pin style cable hook up and the truck has/had the ball style hook up?

The factory rod set up in a 67-70 truck can work if you go to Lowes are HD and buy 1/4" Aluminum Sleeve connectors and the cable. Make loops on each end to mount to the rod and the carburetor. Very simple. Not that much work and will cost maybe $5.00!
