Gen 1 small block with 906 Vortec heads

In the process of putting a new cam and Vortec 903 heads on my GMC. I've seen some posts talking about water cross over hoses for cooling. Can someone shed some info on this and maybe some pictures if you have them.
Thanks

Re: Gen 1 small block with 906 Vortec heads

Would that be a 906 casting number ?
I do not rember my 99 or my bros 98 having stock steam lines on heads

The one thing i will say pay attention to valve lift stock is safe to say around .420
I built an engine when i was much younger used the 300 hp vette cam same stock 70s heads as a prievios build same castings numbers but valve bind
Ate the cam
Getting the last few parts for a roller cam 350 with 262 vortec heads

The heads have all the necessary machining and have springs good for .570 lift. But do I need to do anything to the heads for cooling or can I just bolt them on?

Re: Gen 1 small block with 906 Vortec heads

I drilled 1/16 a small hole in the thermostat for water to flow, or you can run a bypass line to the intake from the water pump. i have a vortec top end and no steam lines.
