Floor insulation install method

I'm putting down some heat/sound deadening stuff on the floor of my '72 C10. I know there are several different kinds, but this will be the foil on top & the sticky stuff on the bottom. Just wondering what the best method for layout is. Where to start? Side to side? Front to back? I did this in a car once & remember having to slice & dice a lot, then cut odd shapes to fill in the gaps. Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: Floor insulation install method

I would get some cardboard paper (usually comes in a roll) and make templates. Depending how wide the roll is you may be able to cut it out of two pieces (one for the front half, one for the back). You could also make 4 pieces and quarter it out.

Definitely use a template though or you will do a ton of slice and dice.

Re: Floor insulation install method

I started in the back passenger corner and went back to front, passenger to driver. I don't think there is a "right" way in reality. Maybe just more and less efficient ways.

I did 2x layers of dynamat using joint tape over seams for vibration and heat. Then I did .5" dynapad on top of that, and then new carpet. It was very effective at sound reduction for sure. I'm mid-way through an exhaust job, and my mufflers dump just behind the cab currently, but it's no more loud than it was before with exhaust going all the way out the back.
